GD Jiu-Jitsu wins at the AZ State Championship
1st place at the Adult Division
The 2009 Arizona BJJ State Championship took place in Mesa, AZ on July 11th & 12th with 430 competitors in attendance. These competitors came from places such as: CA, NV, TX, NM, NY, MD, CO, UT, local teams from all over Arizona, and even one team coming from Mexico.
The event was promoted by GD Jiu-Jitsu Events in association with the Arizona Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (AZSBJJF). The tournament was sponsored by Kimurawear, Many Weapons, Versatile Fighter, Aggro Fight Gear, OTM Fight Shop, One Stop Nutrition, Crossfit Southwest, Ironclad Energy Drink, Max Sports Grill and Gracie Mag Association.

Team GD Jiu-Jitsu was well represented at the tournament by winning 1st place in Adult Division and 3rd place at Kids Division. The standout of the team was Ryan “Scoop” Heilman, who despite the fact of being in the feather weight division, defeated three opponents to win the purple belt open.
